September 2011 Roundup |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st October 2011 Another busy month for mobile phone releases as manufacturers announce handsets coming out by Christmas.
HTCHTC had a very quiet period over the summer, but they are back with a range of very different devices. Two new Windows phones, the HTC TITAN is a powerful high-end device, complemented by the more mid-market HTC Radar. In their Android line-up, HTC revamped their top-of-the-range Sensation with the impressive HTC Sensation XE. At the very bottom of the range is the new HTC Explorer entry-level device. Somewhere in between is the good looking and slightly girlie HTC Rhyme.
SamsungThe very big and hugely powerful Samsung Galaxy Note smartphone made the headlines at the start of the month, as did their new compact tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7.. and at the end of the month Samsung announced another compact Android tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus. We took a closer look at last month's Samsung Galaxy Y Pro, Galaxy Y, Galaxy M Pro and Galaxy W. All those other phones are running Android, but Samsung also refreshed their Windows line with the midrange Samsung Omnia W.
Other manufacturersOne of the biggest announcements of the month was the Amazon Kindle Fire, a customised Android tablet that might just challenge Apple. The Sonim XP3300 Force proved itself to be the world's toughest phone. Chinese manufacturer Huawei started shipping their Huawei Blaze handset in the UK, and announced their powerful Huawei Honor Android smartphone. A generation of Nokia handsets bowed out with the gold-plated Nokia C3-01 Gold Edition. The Motorola Milestone 3 started shipping in South America, but European Moto fans may be out of luck with this smartphone. And right at the start of the month, Sony demonstrated that not all tablets have to be the same with the Sony Tablet S and Tablet P.
Other newsThe MeeGo and LiMo OSes merged to form Tizen but it is unlikely that consumers will care. Finally, we looked at the iPhone 5 Experiment being set up by perhaps the world's biggest Apple fan. |
