The Samsung E2370 is a ruggedised handset that belongs to the same family of phones as the B2100 and B2700, offering simple but useful functionality in a tough package.
Samsung's seemingly random series designation has slapped this phone with an "E" series name used for other budget phones, but the E2370's main selling point is bound to be its IP54 certification, something that it shares with the B2700. "IP54" means that the E2370 is highly resistant against dust and splashing water, but it is not waterproof, unlike the IP57 rated B2100 which does operate under water. One unusual and useful feature is the inclusion of a torch, something that the B2100 also has. On the front is a 1.8" 128 x 160 pixel display, on the back is an ultra-basic 0.3 megapixel (VGA resolution) digital camera. Samsung's press release says that it is capable of VGA resolution video capture, but we would be very surprised if this was really the case.
Although the display and camera are of a quite low specification, the E2370 does come with microSD expandable memory, a multimedia player, FM radio and Bluetooth. Samsung say that the E2370 has dual speakers for improved audio playback. USB connectivity is limited to version 1.1, so transferring large amounts of music files will be quite slow. The Samsung E2370 measures 112 x 49 x 19mm, about the same as the B2100. Of note is the very large 2000 mAh battery (twice the capacity of the B2100) which is quoted as giving the E2370 a staggering 20 hours talktime and 43 days standby time.. this would make the E2370 an ideal phone for taking out hiking or for other outdoors activities where you are away from mains power for a long time. There's no word on pricing or availability, our guess is that the E2370 should retail for around €100 whenever it finally hits the streets.
