A shift downmarket for the HTC Desire line, the new HTC Desire 200 is a pretty basic Android smartphone which is presumably aimed at challenging Samsung who are pretty dominant at this end of the market.
The specifications of the Desire 200 are pretty modest. On the front is a 3.5" 320 x 480 pixel display, on the back is a 5 megapixel camera with VGA resolution video capture, inside is a 1GHz single-core CPU with a pretty miserable 512MB of RAM and the Desire 200 has just 4GB of onboard flash storage with a microSD slot to add more. Audio playback is enhanced with Beats Audio and the user interface has been given a makeover with HTC Sense. Because this is an Android smartphone then it does everything that every other Android smartphone does, including 3.5G support, WiFi and GPS plus Bluetooth 3.0 and USB connectivity. Inside is a 1230 mAh battery which can allegedly power the Desire 200 for up to 7 hours talktime and 34 days standby time.. but real life figures will probably be a lot less. It's a pretty lightweight device at 100 grams, and quite pocket friendly at 108 x 61 x 11.9mm.
The main selling point of the Desire 200 must surely be the price, but we don't know how much it will cost. However, the specification is about the same as the Samsung Galaxy Fame which retails for around €150, so we would expect the Desire 200 to cost about the same, whenever it hits the market.
