August 2009 Roundup

31st August 2009

The quietest month so far this year for new product launches, most manufacturers are saving their big announcements for September onwards when people are back from their holidays.

Nokia

The most important announcement this month was the Nokia N900 - Nokia's first Linux-based smartphone, and a device that might just become the new benchmark to beat. Two other touchscreens to be announced were the Nokia 5230, a low cost but still very capable smartphone, and a variant of the popular 5800 was launched, the Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition. Another first for Nokia this month was the announcement of the Nokia Booklet 3G, their first Windows-based subnotebook, which is designed to work closely with your Nokia phone.

The Sony Ericsson Jalou is a distinctive and well-specified handset that Sony Ericsson hope will help boost flagging sales figures. Two handsets that will be exclusive to the Hutchison 3 network are the INQ Chat 3G, a BlackBerry-style phone with a QWERTY keyboard and the more compact INQ Mini 3G which is more pocket-friendly, both these phones are designed to integrate with social networking sites.
