The T-Mobile Vivacity is a low cost Android handset that manages to fit in a surprising amount of features for the money. In the UK, the Vivacity will come in at just under £100 for a prepay handset, a price level that few smartphones have been able to match.
The main features are a 3.5" 800 x 480 pixel display, a 5 megapixel camera plus a front-facing video calling camera, there's an FM radio, 3.5G support, GPS and WiFi and all the usual features that you would expect from an Android 2.3 smartphone. We don't know how fast the processor is or how much RAM the Vivacity has. We don't know for certain who built the Vivacity for T-Mobile, but we think that it is probably made by ZTE, and given some similar devices in ZTE's range we would guess that it might have a 600-800 MHz processor and 512MB of RAM.
The handset is a step up from the popular Orange San Francisco, made by ZTE for Orange, who are T-Mobile's partner in the UK. The San Francisco is a popular handset amongst modders (it's the fourth most popular device for Cyanogemod). There's good chance that the Vivacity will end up in the hands of modders too.
This is a well-featured smartphone for not a lot of money. A pay-as-you-go version would make an ideal first smartphone for many consumers, it is also free on low price contracts. Handily enough, the Vivacity will be in the shops for Christmas, so we expect this one to be a strong seller. |
