Sony Ericsson Z750

 Sony Ericsson Z750 open Expected Q3 2007
26th March 2007

The Sony Ericsson Z750 is a phone aimed at the North American market. It comes in two colours (err.. colors I suppose), and is a 3G UMTS device with quad-band GSM, EDGE and HSDPA data. We'll look a little further at these technical specifications a little later.

At first glance you might be forgiven for thinking that the Sony Ericsson Z750 was identical to the Z610i found in Europe and elsewhere, and although they share the same basic design, the Z750 is a somewhat larger device with an improved primary display.

It's an attractive phone with a fashionable glossy finish. The external 36x128 pixel display panel is nicely hidden behind the Z750's shiny exterior and only reveals itself when it lights up. Also on the outside of the Z750 is a two megapixel camera.

Inside the Z750 is a somewhat subdued interior with a quite understated and functional layout. The primary display is a 2.2" 240x320 pixel panel in 262,000 colours and the Z750 also has a secondary camera for video calling (although this may vary by operator).

Underneath, the Sony Ericsson Z750 takes Memory Stick Micro cards with a maximum capacity of 2GB (128MB is included in standard configurations). There's also stereo Bluetooth and an FM radio.

Sony Ericsson Z750 3G devices such as this are pretty rare in North America due to the fragmented nature of the UMTS network. In order to cope with this, the Sony Ericsson Z750 has tri-band UMTS supporting the 850, 1900 and 2100 MHz frequencies. It also has quad band (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz) GSM, GPRS and EDGE data, plus HSDPA "3G broadband" which can potentially reach download speeds of several megabits per second. This means that the Z750 should be able to offer high-speed data connections pretty much anywhere in the world.

The software bundle includes an email client, RSS news reader, web browser, MP3 player and a selection of other multimedia applications and personal information management tooks.

The Sony Ericsson Z750 will be available in "Rose Pink" and "Phantom Grey" colour combinations and is expected to be available in North America from Q3 2007.
