Sony Ericsson W910i
Discontinued 15th June 2007
It looks like just another "Walkman"
brand slider, but the Sony Ericsson W910i manages to
pack an awful lot of features into a relatively tiny
package.
Weighing just 86 grams, the W910i is
actually a 3G UMTS device with HSDPA (3.5G) support,
a 320x240 pixel resolution screen, expandable memory,
an FM radio, 2 megapixel camera (plus a video calling
camera) and Bluetooth. This makes the W910i one
of the lightest 3G phones on the market.
Despite the somewhat conservative styling,
the W910i is very much a "next generation"
music phone from Sony Ericsson. The old Disc2Phone software
has been upgraded to a full set of media manager applications,
including the PlayNow data and file manager, and the
W910i also supports a feature called "SenseMe"
that plays tracks according to your mood. No, we don't
think that the W910i has a mood
ring built in.. but what it does have
is a some clever software to help categorise your tracks,
plus a motion-sensitive "Shake" control to
randomly select a song that matches your selection criteria.
The W910i also supports stereo Bluetooth playback.
The
motion sensor can also be used in gameplay, and games
can be played in either a landscape or portrait orientation.
It isn't quite a "PSP Phone", but it comes
fairly close.
It's easy to forget that the Sony Ericsson
W910i is actually a phone - and underneath this
is a quad-band GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz device with
GPRS and EDGE data, plus UMTS 2100 MHz with HSDPA. Physically
the W910i measures 100 x 50 x 13mm. The battery life
is not known.
Sony Ericsson say that the W910i should
be available during Q4 2007 in "Hearty Red"
and "Noble Black" colour combinations. There
will also be a W908c variant for the Chinese
market.
