The Sony Ericsson W205 is the thirty-third "Walkman" phone to be announced, but Sony Ericsson hope that it will be many customers' first Walkman phone.

This is a dual-band GSM phone with a 1.3 megapixel camera and a 1.8" 128 x 160 pixel display, Bluetooth, an FM radio, multimedia player and expandable memory. It isn't the most basic Walkman phone ever made - that dubious honour lies with the W200 - but it is certainly close.

It's worth pointing out a few positive things before we proceed. Firstly, we think that this phone is likely to be very cheap. The W200 retails at about €70 SIM-free, the W205 might be a little bit more. The W205 comes with a torch. Talktime is a useful 9 hours with up to 17 day standby time. It's a good-looking phone too.

Other than that, there is nothing here to get excited about. We suspect that the W205 will drown in a sea of consumer indifference.

If you really want to buy the W205 then it will be available during Q2 2009. There's also a US version called the W205a which should be available during Q3.
