A conventional, lightweight and affordable 3.5G phone, the Sony Ericsson Cedar forms part of Sony Ericsson's "GreenHeart" range of more environmentally responsible devices.
In terms of specification, the Cedar is almost identical to the Naite that came out last year. That currently retails for less than €100, and we would expect the Cedar to come in at a similar price. There's a 2.2" 240 x 320 pixel display on the front, a 2 megapixel camera on the back, support for HSDPA data, there's an FM radio and microSD slot and a multimedia player. Of note is that the video capture quality is quoted as being VGA resolution at 30 frames per second, which is pretty decent for a low cost phone and is certainly good enough for YouTube. You can use the Cedar as a cellular modem too, which should appeal to business users.
The Cedar uses recycled plastics, has a waterborne paint, low power charger and comes in reduced packaging, and we have to say that its "green" credentials are perhaps the only real reason why someone would choose this over the Nokia C5 or other similar phones. Otherwise, the Cedar is quite dull and lacks the sexiness of the Xperia range of touchscreen devices. Sony Ericsson say that the Cedar should be available during Q3 2010 in black/silver and black/red colour combinations. |
