Samsung U100 (SGH-U100 / Ultra Edition
5.9)
Discontinued 12th February 2007
Samsung say that the SGH-U100 is the
slimmest mobile phone on the market, at just 5.9mm thick.
Following
on from the popular X820,
the Samsung U100 is a an interesting combination of
design and features. There's a 3 megapixel digital camera
and a widescreen 1.9" 220x176 pixel display, plus
a multimedia player, Bluetooth, 70Mb of internal memory and
EDGE data support. There's even a TV output port.
The main selling feature of the SGH-U100
is its slimness. In many other respects, the U100 is
somewhat compromised. For example, there's no expandable
memory and the overall layout and design is somewhat
uninspiring. It's worth noting that although the SGH-U100
is a very slim phone, it's somewhat wide and tall at
106 x 50mm.. in other words, Samsung have achieved this
impressive feat of slimunisation by squashing
the phone somewhat.
Nitpicking aside, the SGH-U100 is a
sufficiently capable phone for most people and its ultra-slim
design should give it plenty of "wow" factor.
Samsung say that the U100 should be available during
the first quarter of 2007.
