Samsung M3200 (GT-M3200 / Samsung Beat
s)
Discontinued 26th September 2008
The second of Samung's "Beat Edition"
phones after the M3510,
the Samsung M3200 (also called the Samsung
Beat s) is a lower midrange slider phone designed
for music playback.
The M3200 is a GSM-only device with
a 2 megapixel camera, 2" 240 x 320 pixel display,
a microSD memory slot, Bluetooth 2.0 and a USB 2.0 connection.
To be honest, these aren't really the M3200's strong
points, because it is primarily designed for music playback.
The
integrated music player supports MP3, WMA, AAC, AAC+
and e-AAC+ audio plus various types of digital rights
management (DRM). Audio playback is enhanced with the
addition of a B&O ICEpower amplifier, Samsung's
Digital Natural Sound engine (DNSe), Shazam's "Find
Music" application and an automatic equaliser function.
On top of this, the M3200 has an FM radio with RDS.
In addition, the Samsung M3200 has a 3.5mm audio jack
and dedicated media control keys.
Size and weight are unremarkable at
101 grams and 97 x 47 x 17mm. Talktime is quoted as
a maximum of 7 hours with up to 16 days standby time
and 21 hours of music playback.
Although the GT-M3200 Beat s can
establish some pretty good credentials as a music
phone, it doesn't have much to offer other than that.
The rest of the phone is a little mediocre - the specifications
aren't too great and it lacks the fashionable looks
of, say, a Sony Ericsson Walkman phone.
According to the information we received
from Samsung, this is a GSM 850 / 1800 / 1900 device
which would indicate that it is for use in the Americas
rather than Europe. If this is the case, then it's no
great loss. Samsung say that the M3200 should be available
sometime during October 2008, although no pricing or
exact availability has been specified.
