Over recent weeks, we have seen quite a lot of flashy phones that pack in a lot of the magic "wow" factor when it comes to design. To some extent then, the Samsung Lucido S7220 is refreshing.. because it looks so normal.

Samsung Lucido S7220 So what is actually going on under the Lucido's smart but subdued exterior? One immediately obvious feature is the 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash on the back. The camera features face and smile detection and also comes with "anti-blur technology". Video capture is a maximum of 320 x 240 pixels at 15 fps, which we think is a little disappointing.

The 2.2" AMOLED display may not be the biggest screen in its class, but the technology that Samsung use in their handsets gives a very bright and easy-to-use screen. An accelerometer can auto-rotate the screen if the handset is turned.

The Samsung Lucido also comes with GPS, and this can be used to geo-tag photographs, and the Lucido supports Google Maps.

Samsung Lucido detail Audio playback formats include MP3, AAC and WMA plus MPEG4 and WMV video amongst others. The Lucido includes an FM radio.

Internal memory is 110MB, expandable up to 8GB using a microSD card. The Samsung Lucido has Bluetooth 2.1 and USB 2.0 connectivity as well. This is a dual-band UMTS 900/2100 device with quad-band GSM and a maximum HSDPA download speed of up to 7.2 Mbps, however the Lucido lacks WiFi.

Samsung are very keen to stress that the Lucido is a stylish phone, and indeed "lucido" is an Italian word that means "polished" or "shiny". Metal detailing is used in the design, and the Lucido is quite slim at just 11.8mm thick.

This is an attractive, capable and very pocket-friendly handset that may well appeal to business users as well as those who want a device that is capable, but not too showy. Samsung say that the Lucido should be available in the UK and Ireland from April, and will appear in other European countries as the Samsung Ultra b.
