Samsung's ever expanding tablet range continues to evolve in somewhat confusing directions. With the new Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 and Tab S 8.4, we have a pair of high-end tablets that seem to be very little different to the TabPro 10.1 and 8.4 announced six months ago.

So do these Tab S tablets replace the TabPRO tablets? We have no idea, but they are certainly more powerful and desirable than the somewhat dull Tab4 range announced back in April. As with the Tab4 devices, these Tab S tablets are almost identical in every respect apart from the size.

 Samsung Galaxy Tab S Range

As you might guess, the Tab S 10.5 is a 10.5" tablet, and the Tab S 8.4 is an 8.4" tablet. Both come with a high-resolution 1600 x 2560 Super AMOLED displays, 2.3 GHz quad-core or 1.9GHz/1.3GHz octa-core CPUs with 3GB of RAM, 16 or 32GB of flash storage plus a microSD slot, an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p video recording plus a 2.1 megapixel front facing camera, an infra-red port, with support for GPS, GLONASS and Beidou positioning systems plus all the usual features that you'd expect to find in an Android 4.4 tablet plus a whole load of Samsung software enhancements too.

Both the tablets will come in WiFi-only or WiFi plus LTE versions. The Tab S 10.5 measures 247 x 177 x 6.6mm and weighs 467g for the LTE version, and comes with a 7900 mAh battery. The Tab S 8.4 measures 126 x 213 x 6.6mm and weighs 298g for the LTE version, and this packs a 4900 mAh battery. These Tab S devices are generally more compact and lighter than the equivalent models in the Tab4 and TabPRO ranges.

We understand that these tablets will start to ship to the US and other markets from July onwards, starting at $399 for the Tab S 8.4 and and $499 for the Tab S 10.5.
