Samsung F110 (SGH-F110) / Adidas miCoach

Samsung F110 / Adidas miCoach Discontinued
6th March 2008

As a phone, the Samsung F110 doesn't have an awful lot to write home about - it comes with a fairly basic 176 x 220 pixel display, a 2 megapixel camera, it doesn't have 3G or GPS and it looks a little on the plain side. It does have 1GB of non-expandable memory, which makes it useful as an MP3 player and it comes with Bluetooth as well.

Samsung SGH-F110 But in its other guise as the Adidas miCoach, the SGH-F110 forms the heart of a personal training system that integrates with a fitness coach application with an optional heart rate monitor, stride sensor, a web application to create training applications and of course some snazzy Adidas sportswear to go with it.

It's not just a case of a Samsung slider with an Adidas badge slapped on it, Adidas have worked with the Athletes' Performance Institute at Arizona State University to come up with a complete package for its users.. people who we suspect are somewhat more sporty than the average Mobile Gazette reader.

We understand that you can even upload data from the miCoach sensors to your blog in real time. So, if you've just run a marathon and are absolutely exhausted, it saves you all the effort of having to write about it.

Adidas miCoach / Samsung F110 Overall, the Samsung F110 miCoach looks like a pretty good niche product. Our worry would be this - compatibility. What happens if you equip yourself with all the sensors and gadgets that come with the miCoach, and then your handset becomes obsolete? The average lifespan of a mobile phone for many users is around two years, so it could be that the F110 will be obsolete before you have gotten the full use from it.

Samsung and Adidas say that the F110 miCoach should be available from March 2008.

In the UK, the Carphone Warehouse group has already said that they will stock it, although no guidance has been given on price.
