Discontinued 27th September 2009
The
Samsung Corby TXT (called the Samsung Genio TXT in
the UK) is designed to be a simple but fun messaging phone.
It's a classic BlackBerry-style handset with a small
QWERTY keyboard underneath a non-touchscreen display. On the back
is a 2 megapixel camera, and the Corby TXT supports microSD expandable
memory, comes with a multimedia player, FM radio and it has a standard
3.5mm audio socket.
Unlike other "Corby" (or "Genio")
handsets, the Corby TXT B3210 comes with a very basic screen. The
conventional 2.2" 176 x 220 pixel panel won't be as fun to
use as other phones in the range, but it should just about be acceptable
for texting, IM and email messages.
The user interface has been given a cartoon-style
makeover to inject some fun, and the box contains a plain black
cover plus a brightly coloured one that can be put on instead.
It's quite a lightweight device at 94 grams, which
is not bad for a device with a QWERTY keyboard like this. The multimedia
player should be useful enough for entertainment purposes, and we
have always found that even basic Samsung cameraphones produce quite
pleasing results when it comes to stills photos. This is a GSM-only
phone - the Samsung Corby TXT doesn't support 3G or WiFi connectivity.
There's no word on pricing, but this will probably
be a very inexpensive device when it hits the shops from September
onwards.
