The
Samsung C3060R is a simple mobile phone aimed at those people
who may struggle with over-complicated technology.
Using a combination of straightforward design, simplified
menus, large text and lots of online help, the C3060R has a certain
appeal. The menus have just five items on them to make them easy
to use, and the C3060R isn't over-burdened with features either.
Samsung say in particular that the C3060R is suited
to older customers, but the large fonts and clearly labelled keys may
be useful for those with some visual impairment, and even the most
ardent technology fans sometimes want a phone that is easy to use.
One neat feature is a red "SOS" button
displays five emergency contact numbers which the user can then
select from. If the SOS button is pressed down for a few seconds,
then it will automatically dial the first number. This is a good
idea, but the main drawback is that the button itself seems quite
small.
It's a fairly normal looking phone, which is good.
Many "easy use" phones look rather silly, but the C3060R
looks just like a standard handset. The feature set overall is modest
but useful, with a 2.2" 176x 220 pixel display, FM radio, WAP
browser and Java support and a basic 1.3 megapixel camera.
Creating a mobile phone that is easy to use without
being patronising is a difficult thing, but it looks like the C3060R
might have managed to pull it off.
The Samsung C3060R should be available in certain
markets from June onwards at an estimated cost of €140 SIM-free.
