Samsung B5702 DUOS
Discontinued 9th April 2009
Samsung announced its first "DUOS"
dual-SIM phone about 18 months ago with the Samsung
D880, and finally Samsung have upgraded their first
DUOS phone with the new Samsung B5702.
At first glance, the B5702 looks quite
old-fashioned, clearly inspired by the Samsung
D500 from 2004, this particular style of slider
used to be very popular, but we haven't seen it for
a few years now. In fact, the B5702 looks very much
like the D880. But is it different underneath?
A
close examination of the technical features of the D880
and B5702 shows that there is very little difference.
The B5702 has a 2.4" 240 x 320 pixel display, a
3 megapixel camera, microSD expandable memory, Bluetooth
and a multimedia player in addition to those all-important
twin sim slots.
The improvements are minor, the B5702
has a slightly larger screen than the D880 and now both
SIMs support quad-band GSM, plus the B5702 supports
microSD cards of up to 8GB. A few other minor improvements
seem to have been made, and the B5702 has a slight makeover.
But otherwise, the B5702 is basically very similar to
the older DUOS phone.
Despite the slightly old-fashioned looked,
the Samsung B5702 does pretty much everything that you
might want a GSM phone to do. The two main drawbacks
are this: the B5702 doesn't support 3G, and at 14,000
roubles (or around €310) it's a little expensive too.
But if you want to have two SIMs in one phone, then
the DUOS is a good choice.
The Samsung B5702 will be available
in Russia from May 2009 onwards, and it should be available
from specialist retailers throughout Europe sometime
after that.
