Nokia X1-01

The Nokia X1-01 is a dual-SIM version of the Nokia X1-00, a very low cost device with very strong musical capabilities and pitched to sell at just €34 before tax and carrier subsidy.

Physically identical on the surface to the X1-00, apart from the X1-01 model number printed on the back, this 91 grams device packs an FM radio, a microSD slot, an MP3 player, a very loud speaker and a 3.5mm audio socket. Underneath though, things are a little different with two SIM slots plus software support to enable both to run at the same time.

Apart from the musical and dual-SIM capabilities, the X1-01 is a fairly basic affair with a 1.8" 128 x 160 pixel display, there is no support for Bluetooth or data connectivity and there's no camera on the back either, but there is a handy flashlight built into the top. It's worth pointing out that the €34 price tag also includes a stereo wired headset in the standard sales package.

Nokia say that the large smartphone-class 1320 mAh battery can power the X1-01 for up to 13 hours talktime and 43 day standby time, or alternatively for 36 hours of music playback. We don't know how much extra drain the second SIM card puts on the phone while in use, but with a battery this big then you will get plenty of life out of the phone no matter what you do.

In addition to supporting two SIMs at once, the X1-01 can remember individual settings for up to 5 SIMs, making it possible to share one phone between different people.

The X1-01 is due to ship this quarter in most regions outside North America in red, dark grey, ocean blue, orange and white colour schemes. The price is the same as the X1-00 which shipped just this month, and because the handsets are almost identical then we recommend that you check carefully that the model your are looking at is an X1-01 if it is important to you.
