 Nokia Lumia 625 Available now
23rd July 2013

The Nokia Lumia 625 is a 4G Windows smartphone with a relatively big 4.7" screen.. but a relatively small price tag of just €220 before tax and subsidy, all housed in a smart looking device with funky interchangeable backs.

Costing half the price of the somewhat smaller Nokia Lumia 925, the Lumia 625 is obviously going to make some compromises along the way, even though at first glance they look pretty similar.

The display on the Lumia 625 is a large 4.7" panel, bigger even than the one on the Lumia 925. However, the modest 480 x 800 pixel resolution is a lot less sharp, coming in at just 200 ppi compared with 330 ppi on the 925. Still, a lot of people don't care too much about the resolution but do care about screen size, and these are the consumers that the 625 is aimed at.

On the back is a pretty standard 5 megapixel camera with 1080p HD video recording, plus a VGA resolution camera on the front for video calling. Inside is a dual-core 1.2GHz processor with just 512MB of RAM. 8GB of onboard flash storage is supplemented with a microSD slot.

Nokia Lumia 625 LTE bands 3, 7 and 20 are supported, plus the Lumia 625 supports HSPA+ and tri-band UMTS. The Lumia 625 supports GPS and GLONASS positioning systems and has Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0 and WiFi connectivity plus an FM radio and a 3.5mm audio connector. The relatively large 2000 mAh battery should give a similar performance to the higher-end Nokias, which should mean that it will easily cope for a full day on a charge.

The operating system is Windows Phone 8 plus Nokia's HERE navigation, free music streaming and various camera enhancements. Although the software library is growing, it doesn't really match the scope of Android or iOS in this respect. You can match the colour scheme of the tiles to the back cover for a pleasing aesthetic effect.

Nokia say that the Lumia 625 should be available from Q3 onwards in orange, bright green, yellow, white and black colours plus a range of accessories that match the design nicely. If you are looking for a big screen but inexpensive device then the Lumia 625 certainly looks worth considering.
