The Nokia Lumia 1520 is Nokia's first full HD smartphone, sporting a 6" 1920 x 1080 pixel display and it also packs an impressive 20 megapixel camera on the back.

If you've seen Lumia devices before.. well, this is the same but bigger and probably faster, although the additional screen space allows for more tiles to be displayed on the home screen, and there are some software enhancements too (especially to do with digital imaging), and the Lumia 1520 can also read handwriting with the new Papyrus application.

The camera has optical image stabilisation and ZEISS optics, making it a formidable choice for photography, and the display panel is a ClearBlack LCD screen which is designed to be readable in sunlight and can be used when wearing gloves.

On the front is a 1.2 megapixel video calling camera, and the Lumia 1520 also has Qi wireless charging, NFC, and all the usual features are here such as GPS, GLONASS, Bluetooth, USB connectivity and a whole bunch of sensors.

Inside is a quad-core 2.2GHz processor with 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal flash storage plus a microSD slot and there's also 7GB of online cloud storage available too. This is an LTE capable device, and of course it supports 3.5G as well.

As you might expect, this is quite a big beast at 163 x 85 x 8.7mm and 209 grams. Inside is a hefty 3400 mAh battery, and the Lumia 1520 will be available in yellow, white, black or glossy red colours.

It's a fairly pricey device - the Nokia Lumia 1520 is pitched to sell at $749 before tax and subsidy, perhaps retailing at about €660 or £550 in Europe which is about the same price as the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Nokia says that the Lumia 1520 should be available during Q4 2013 in the US and most major European and Asian markets with other regions to follow.
