The LG Optimus Pad is an Android 3.0 "Honeycomb" tablet with an 8.9" display and 3D capable dual 5 megapixel cameras on the back.
A bit smaller than the iPad, the Optimus Pad's display has a higher resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels. Inside is a dual-core 1GHz Tegra 2 processor coupled with 1GB of RAM, which should cope with just about anything you'll want to run. Running the new Android 3.0 "Honeycomb" operating system, this should be a significantly better user experience than the first generation Android devices. The dual 5 megapixel cameras on the back of the Optimus Pad are designed to take 3D video clips, although unlike the Optimus 3D the Optimus Pad has a standard 2D display. At the moment other specifications are a bit vague, except that we do know that the Optimus Pad takes an HDMI cable, and apparently it supports videoconferencing which would imply a front-facing camera. We don't know if this is a WiFi only device, or if it can support 3G wireless as well, nor do we know how much memory it comes with.
What we do know is that one official source within LG is quoting a retail price of over €1000 for the Optimus Pad, which we think is hugely overpriced. If you want one, then you won't have long to save up either as they should start shipping by early Q2 2011. |
