Expected Q2 2013
21st February 2013

Following on from the recent announcement of the LG Optimus L Series II is the new LG Optimus F Series, which is designed to give a higher-end experience plus LTE support, although cosmetically there doesn't seem to be much in it.

 LG Optimus F5 and F7

LG have previewed two handsets this week, with more details about the rest of the range to follow next week. First up is the LG Optimus F7, due to roll out in selected markets during Q2 2013. The F7 has a 1.5GHz dual-core CPU, 2GB of RAM, 8GB of LG Optimus F7 onboard flash memory plus a microSD slot, an 8 megapixel primary camera and 1.3 megapixel secondary one and a large 2540 mAh battery. Rather obliquely, LG say that the screen is a 4.7" true HD 312ppi panel, which we translate as being a 720 x 1280 pixel display.

LG Optimus F5 The second handset is the more modestly specified LG Optimus F5 with a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, 1GB of RAM with 8GB of flash plus a microSD slot, a 5 megapixel primary and 1.3 megapixel secondary camera, a 2150 mAh battery and a display quoted as being a 4.3" 256ppi unit which we think translates as 540 x 960 pixels. The F5 will be available in Europe during Q2 2013.

Both devices run Android 4.1.2 and include LG's UX interface, including QSlide (for running applications side-by-side) and Live Zooming into video clips. Both displays are LCD IPS panels which should mean that they are very bright and clear, and both F series devices will support LTE 4G data on certain networks.

Although they look like decent devices, there's very little in the F5 and F7 to make them stand out from the competition. Perhaps the key element will be price, and LG have not given any indication as to how much the F5 and F7 will retail for.
