LG GD880 / LG Mini Preview |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Discontinued The LG GD880 Mini is a fully-featured 3.5G touchscreen phone that is designed to be as sleek and as compact as possible.
Taking some design cues from the LG GD510 Pop, the GD880 has quite a small bezel surrounding the 3.2" 854 x 480 pixel touchscreen display, and there are no buttons on the front either, which LG says minimises the space that the Mini takes up. On the back is a 5 megapixel camera, and very little else, and indeed there are only a few other visible features such as a camera button and microSD slot. This design gives the GD880 Mini a very minimalist feeling, and the metal accents along the side and top of the handset do at least stop it looking too much like a black slab. Inside, the LG GD880 Mini is an HSDPA device with maximum download speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps, it supports WiFi, comes with integrated GPS, a multimedia player, microSD expandable memory, Bluetooth and an FM radio.
Perhaps inevitably, the LG GD880 comes with a suite of social networking applications that LG say are even easier to use than a PC. There's no word on what operating system the GD880 runs, so we guess that it is LG's own proprietary one. For a phone that will be sold on its compact size, LG have been a little reluctant to tell us exactly how big the phone is. We think that it measures something in the region of 103 x 49 x 11mm, so at a rough estimate it will have about 25% less "footprint" than the rival iPhone.
There's no word on pricing, but our guess is that a SIM-free LG GD880 Mini will retail for around €350 to €400 including tax at launch. LG say that the GD880 Mini should be available in Europe from March 2010 onwards, with other countries worldwide following on later. |
