Discontinued AT&T announced today that they will carry Dell's first smartphone in the US, the Dell Aero is a GSM / UMTS version of the Dell Mini 3 that ended up in China and Brazil.
This is an Android handset with a custom interface co-designed by AT&T and Dell. There's no word on what version of Android the Aero actually runs though, but there's a bunch of add-ons including social networking applications included in the package. Specifications are pretty vague at the moment, but the Aero does have a 3.5" 360 x 640 pixel display, 5 megapixel camera, 3G and WiFi support plus built-in GPS. The Dell Aero is a useful addition to AT&Ts line-up of cellphones, but we can't imagine that it will tempt many consumers away from other carriers. There's no word on pricing or availability at present, but if you want to get in line you can sign up at www.att.com/aero.
