Three New Handsets Launch BenQ-Siemens
Brand
18th January 2006
The BenQ-Siemens tie-up in 2005 had
started off pretty poorly, with a range of lacklustre
cheap phones, and products such as the Siemens
SG75 which were announced then cancelled. By the
end of 2005, the BenQ-Siemens range of phones was looking
pretty poor, but BenQ had promised
a better range of handsets for 2006.. and to coincide
with the launch of the BenQ-Siemens brand, they've
come up with a trio of handsets that look quite interesting.
We'll cover these devices in more depth
soon - but first up is the BenQ-Siemens EF81, a slim
3G clamshell phone with a 2 megapixel camera, expandable
memory, multimedia playback, Bluetooth and a 2.2"
240x320 pixel main display. The EF81 weighs just 110
grams which is pretty impressive for a fully featured
3G phone such as this. The EF81 has clearly taken a
little bit of inspiration from the Motorola RAZR in
its design.
The BenQ-Siemens S68 is a more traditional
looking Siemens handset with a 132x176 pixel display
and Bluetooth, but deliberately designed without a camera
to appeal to businesses. At just 78.5 grams in weight
and a 13.2mm thickness, the S68 is certainly very compact
too.
The S88 is BenQ-Siemens answer to the
Sony
Ericsson K750i - a multimedia phone with a 2 megapixel
digital camera, 176x220 pixel display, Bluetooth and
expandable memory using microSD cards.
These handsets may not be the most original
designs in the world - they seem to be strongly influenced
by Motorola and Sony Ericsson. In styling terms they
seem to lack polish too, however they are promising
looking devices that should be very competitively priced
when they come out. All three handsets are due during
Q1 2006.
BenQ promise to launch a large number
of 3G and megapixel class devices in their 2006 portfolio.
