Toshiba TS921 (Vodafone TS 921)
Discontinued 11th March 2005
The Toshiba TS921 is a highly specified
3G handset, exclusively available on the Vodafone 3G
network. As with the Sharp
902, the TS921 is originally sourced from Vodafone
KK in Japan, and will now be released for 3G networks
in Europe and Australasia, in addition to Toshiba's
home country of Japan.
The TS921 is pretty similar to the Sharp
device in many ways, being a fairly chunky handset with
a large screen similar in size and capabilities to the
Sharp. The Toshiba has a 1.9 megapixel camera with autofocus,
expandable memory using SD cards, and video output.
Although not confirmed, it will almost definitely have
Bluetooth and an MP3 player too. Talktime is quoted
as being up to 5 hours with 15 days standby, which is
very impressive for a 3G device.
The Toshiba TS921 will almost certainly
be a great handset, but it's not clear why Vodafone
need something that so closely competes with the existing
Sharp 902. However, on of Vodafone's aims here is to
establish a collection of top-notch handsets to aid
with their 3G push to consumers.
The handset should start shipping in
Q2 2005, most likely in Japan first and then other regions.
