T-Mobile Sidekick LX 2009
Available
now (US only) 19th April 2009

The T-Mobile Sidekick range has been a huge hit in the US over
the years, but the few Sidekick devices that have made it to Europe
have usually flopped. The problem with the Sidekick is that even
though they packed a useful QWERTY keyboard, generally they were
fairly low-specification devices that were also quite bulky. The
Sidekick's target market in Europe was more interested in other
gadgets.
Well, just perhaps the new T-Mobile Sidekick LX 2009 might
change things a little. One of the main features is the large 3.2"
854 x 480 pixel display, plus GPS, a 3.2 megapixel camera with geotagging
and 3G support.
This is a dual-band 1700 / 2100 MHz UMTS device which means that
it will work in Europe as well as North America, it also features
quad-band GSM support with GPRS and EDGE, but the T-Mobile Sidekick
LX 2009 lacks wi-fi or HSDPA.
The
display isn't touch-sensitive, but it is ideal for web surfing,
and the T-Mobile Sidekick LX 2009 supports social networking sites
such as Facebook, Twitter, Myspace and YouTube. This is pretty much
in line with the Sidekick's youthful target market.
The large and well-space QWERTY keyboard is another key feature
that Sidekick fans will appreciate. The trademark swivelling display
is back too, giving this latest Sidekick plenty of "wow"
factor.
At 165 grams in weight, the Sidekick LX 2009 is fairly heavy,
but with an excellent display and useful keyboard then it seems
to be worth it. The T-Mobile Sidekick LX 2009 is available to pre-order
now in the US. There is no news on any European release at present.
