Sony
Ericsson Z800i / Z800
Discontinued 14th February 2005
The 3G Sony Ericsson Z800i is a variant of the Vodafone-only
V800 handset, with
identical features but available to different networks.
Pitched at the higher end of the 3G market, the Z800i
comes with a 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, removable
memory (using Memory Stick Pro Duo cards), video calling
and a 176x220 pixel main display in 262,000 colours.
The odd-shaped clamshell case isn't to everyone's
taste, but it gives the Z800i a distinctive look. The
camera is a rotating device capable of video calls,
stills and video capture. At 102x49x24mm and 128 grams
it's fairly typical in size and weight terms.
The Z800i's software is pretty much what you'd expect,
with a WAP 2.0 browser, email client, media player,
PIM functionality at themes. You can connect the Z800i
to a PC using Bluetooth, infra-red or USB cable.
This is a UMTS (3G) + GSM 900/1800/1900 device with
2.5 hours of 3G talktime, a whopping 10 hours of GSM
talktime and up to 10 days standby. Availability of
the Z800i hasn't been confirmed by Sony Ericsson, but
since it's based on an already existing handset, the
wait should not be too long.
