Siemens CF110
Cancelled 15th August 2005
The Siemens CF110 is a stripped down
and basic slider handset that's very lightweight and
is designed to be easy to use and attractive at the
same time.
Perhaps this handset is the spiritual
successor to the classic SL55
slider. Like the SL55, the Siemens CF110 comes in at
less than 80 grams (76.5 grams for the CF110, 79 grams
for the SL55), comes with a functional but basic display
at 130x130 pixels (101x80 for the SL55), no camera,
no Bluetooth and certainly no music playback functionality.
It's
somewhat slimmer than the SL55 too, at 83x45x18mm. However,
the talktime is up to 5 hours with up to 9 days standby
time. Although it's not as curvy as the SL55, there's
a certain style to the CF110 which you could perhaps
describe as understated and Germanic.
The rest of the Siemens CF110's feature
list is pretty short: there's a WAP 1.2 browser, polyphonic
ringtones, Java support, MMS, GPRS, basic PIM functions
and just 1.5Mb of memory. As far as we can tell there's
no email client on the CF110.
So.. what is this phone exactly?
A relic from the past, or a clever and simple to
use device like the Sagem
VS1 and VS2? To be honest, we suspect that's it's
a little bit of both and perhaps a recognition that
the SL55 still sells despite being replaced by the SL65
and upcoming SL75.
It lacks the ultra simple appeal of the Sagem handsets
though.
We do rather like the Siemens CF110
for all its simplicity though. It pretty much covers
all of the basic features that most people will need,
and the combination of light weight and decent battery
life is impressive. It's certainly not as cute as the
SL55 though.. but that always was going to be a hard
act to follow and Siemens haven't quite managed it yet.
