Two ultra-slim and lightweight 3G phones, the Samsung Z510 and Z540 are reportedly only 14.9mm thick, thinner even than the recently announced LG U880 at 18.2mm. Both handsets also weigh under the magic 100 grams barrier for 3G phones. Samsung say that both phones should be available in Europe by the end of the year.

While both of these handsets are certainly impressively slim and lightweight for 3G phones, both only come with 1.3 megapixel cameras and neither handset has expandable memory.

Samsung Z510 (SGH-Z510)

The Z510 is a 3G clamshell phone weighing 98 grams, and measuring 97x52x14.9mm. There's a 2.2" 240x320 pixel main display, 1.3 megapixel camera, MP3/AAC/MPEG4 multimedia player, Bluetooth, video calling, a document viewer and 138Mb of shared internal memory. Samsung have not specified this, but we assume it comes with an email client and a WAP browser.

There's no way to expand the internal memory, also 138Mb should be enough for most purposes. The 1.3 megapixel camera is a bit of a shame though as 3G phones these days tend to have 2 megapixels or better.

Samsung Z540 (SGH-Z540)

The SGH-Z540 is very similar to the Z510 in most respects. There's a similar 240x320 pixel display, although it's a little larger at 2.3". It has slightly more memory, 150Mb and external media player controls. In addition to MP3, AAC and MPEG4 multimedia, the Z540 plays back Real media formats too. Audio playback is assisted with twin built in speakers. The main camera is still 1.3 megapixels, but there's a secondary camera for video calling.

It's actually a little lighter than the Z510 at just 95 grams, and it measures 99x51x14.9mm, There's more than a passing resemblence to the Motorola RAZR V3x, especially on the inside.
