Samsung X640 (SGH-X640) Preview
Discontinued 29th January
2005
We currently know very little about
this handset other than what it looks like. Part of
a pair of new X-series clamshell phones from Samsung
(along with the X480),
the X640 has a VGA resolution digital camera and has
what appears to be a 128x160 pixel display, most likely
in 65,000 colours.
As
you can see, the SGH-X640 retains the smooth look
of most of the current crop of Samsung clamshells, but
it has no external display. There's a large vertical
LED on the device though which may act as a camera light,
and a mystery round object just below the camera which
may well be a mirror.
Based on what we know of similar handsets,
we anticipate that the Samsung X640 will weigh
around 80 grams and support downloadable Java applications and
polyphonic ringtones, wallpapers and other customisation
features, come with a WAP 2.0 browser and MMS messaging
and will be dual band GSM (900/1800). It's possible
that the X640 will support video capture too, with around
8Mb of internal memory. Email support is unlikely.
Delivery date isn't known, but we think
that this will be available in Q2 2005, certainly in
European markets but possibly others.
