Samsung i600 (SGH-i600) Preview
Expected
Q4 2006 15th September 2006
The Samsung i600 is the big brother
to the i320
messaging phone. It's a Windows Mobile 5.0 device with
3G UMTS and HSDPA support plus WiFi, making the SGH-i600
a very capable device. Oh yes, it has infra-red, USB
and Bluetooth connectivity too.
As with the i320, the Samsung i600 comes
with support for Microsoft push email, it has a QWERTY
keyboard and what appears to be a 320x240 pixel display.
On the back is a 1.3 megapixel camera, and there's a
secondary camera on the front for video calling. Samsung
haven't confirmed it, but we're pretty sure the SGH-i600
comes with microSD expandable memory too.
It's
not an attractive phone, it's rather plain and slablike,
but at least the SGH-i600 is an improvement over
the i320's hideously cluttered layout.
From what we can determine, the Samsung
i600 is almost exactly the same size as the i320 at
around 111x59x12mm. We can't be sure of the weight,
but it will probably be close to 100 grams which is
very impressive for a 3.5G Windows smartphone.
You either love Windows Mobile or hate
it, and the Samsung i600 isn't going to win any beauty
competitions, but overall the SGH-i600 looks like a
very versatile and impressive device. Samsung say that
the i600 should be available from Q4 2006.
