Sagem myC5-2
Discontinued 20th October 2004
The Sagem myC5-2 is Sagem's first camera
clamshell phone, aimed primarily at the budget market
like other Sagems. The myC5-2's internal display is
a reasonable 128x160 pixel STN unit in 65,000 colours,
with a VGA resolution (640x480 pixel) camera on the
back just above the battery compartment. There's a smaller
external monochrome display of 96x64 pixels.
Sagem
are not clear about the frequencies of this phone, but
we believe that it is a tri-band GSM phone, although
other reports indicate that it may come in two dual-band
variants. The myC5-2 also supports GPRS and Java, has
a WAP browser and is capable of MMS messaging. Internal
memory is 3.7Mb which isn't a huge amount, but will
store a useful number of pictures.
In design terms, the Sagem myC5-2 lacks
the good looks of the very rare myC3-b,
but it is distinct enough from most other handsets to
look slightly interesting. It's a lightweight phone
though, at only about 80 grams.
Sure, the myC5-2 isn't the most technically
advanced phone in the world, but it's a good entry level
choice. The main problem here (shared with rivals Sendo
and Alcatel) is that Sagem are strictly a second-tier
manufacturer, and although they have shown that they
can produce perfectly decent handsets, they seem to
be stuck on the bottom end of the market - even though
both Sendo and Sagem have added decent Smartphones to
their ranges.
The Sagem myC5-2 should hit the shops
before Christmas, initially for Vodafone/SFR customers
(most likely pay-as-you-go), most likely for around
€190/£120 on pay-as-you-go.
