Nokia 6290, 6300, 6086 and 2626
Due Q1 2007 29th
November 2006
Nokia today announced a mixed bag of
handsets aimed at several different market segments,
all due for release during the first quarter of 2007.
Nokia 6290
A surprisingly bland phone at first
glance, the Nokia 6290 looks like most other 6000 series
clamshells. However, appearances can be deceptive and
the 6290 is actually a 3G smartphone, running the cumbersomely
named Symbian S60 Third Edition Feature Pack 1 operating
system package. There's also a 2.2" 240x320 pixel
display, 2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, a multimedia
player and expandable memory.

Nokia 6086
Another unassuming Nokia clamshell with
hidden depths - this is basically a Nokia
6085 with added WiFi and UMA-based VOIP calling,
as is the Nokia
6136. In fact the 6086 is pretty much just a slightly
cut down version of the 6136. Orange will be one of
the first operators to pick up the 6086.

Nokia 6300
The Nokia 6300 is a stylish and fairly
lightweight handset that features something of a different
design direction from other 6000 series handsets. Apart
from the two-tone cosmetics, the 6300 features a stainless
steel frame in a case and a slim-but-tall design. There's
also a 2 megapixel camera, 240x320 pixel display, expandable
memory, Bluetooth and an MP3 player, all in a handset
weighing just 91 grams.

Nokia 2626
A basic and very inexpensive handset,
the Nokia 2626 is slated to cost just €75 before tax
or subsidy. It's a upgrade to the Nokia
2610 model with a better screen (128x128 pixels
in 65,000 colours) and GPRS data plus an FM radio. It's
certainly a good looking handset for the money.
