Nokia 6208c (6208 Classic)
Available now (China) 5th
January 2009

Made
primarily for the Chinese market, the Nokia 6208c
is Nokia's third recent touchscreen phone, following
on from the N97
and 5800
XpressMusic. But unlike the other two, the 6208c
isn't a smartphone - instead it runs a variant
of the S40 operating system which is more commonly found
on midrange and low-end devices.
This is a stylus-operated phone - the
stylus is mounted on the back of the handset and
is meant to be inspired by Chinese bamboo tools. It's
an unusual needle shape, with the eye of the stylus
wrapping around the camera lens. The stylus is used
with the phone's handwriting recognition software so
that Chinese characters can be drawn directly onto the
screen, but alternatively they can also be composed
on the 6208c's keypad.
The
display is a fairly standard size 2.4" 320 x 240
pixel panel - apart from the touch-sensitivity of course.
On the back is a 3.2 megapixel camera with dual LED
flash. The 6208c also supports microSD expandable memory,
USB 2.0 and Bluetooth 2.0. There's an MP3
player, FM radio and the 6208c has a standard 3.5mm
audio jack.
As with most Chinese phones, this is
a GSM-only handset, supporting GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900
with GPRS and EDGE data. Talktime is up to 3.5 hours
with around 12 days standby time.
There's no word on pricing or availability
except that we can expect to see the 6208c sometime
during the first half of 2009.
