Nokia 6111
Discontinued 13th June 2005
The Nokia 6111 is a compact sliding handset with
a one megapixel digital and a 128x160 pixel display,
Bluetooth and PTT (push-to-talk). At 92 grams,
it is easily the lightest of Nokia's sliding handsets,
and although the specification is more limited
than the 6280 and 6270 phones, we believe that the Nokia
6111 is an extremely attractive and well thought out
device.
At 84x47x23mm, the 6111 is a significantly smaller
than the 6280 and 6270, but this has mainly been done
at the expense of the screen size, which is a
smallish 128x160 pixel TFT panel in 262,000 colours.
On the outside is a one megapixel digital camera
with flash and 6X digital zoom - an unusually high resolution
for such a compact handset.
As you might expect, the 6111 runs the Series 40
operating system, but on this handset the user interface
had been given a makeover. There's a WAP browser,
email client and support for some types of instant messaging.
In addition, the Nokia 6111 supports Java for
games and MP3 and MIDI polyphonic ringtones. As we said,
the 6111 supports PTT, and it also comes with support
for Nokia's Visual Radio function and has an integrated
FM receiver too.
It's unusual to see Bluetooth in a small device such
as this, but it has it, along with infra-red and USB
cable connectivity. Internal available memory
is around 23Mb which is plenty for this type of device.
This is a tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 phone with
GPRS and EDGE data support. Talktime is up to 3 hours
with a maximum of 8 days standby time.
We rather like the Nokia 6111 - it's very much a
mainstream handset that will appeal to a large market
segment. Estimated availability is Q3 2005 with
an unsubsidised price of around €270.
