The LG U8360 is the latest in a long line of clamshell handsets made by LG for the Hutchison 3 network, and it's a distinctive improvement over previous handsets.

Althought the U8360 looks similar to other LG phones in the range, including the distinctive rotating camera, the U8360 actually comes with a 1.3 megapixel digital camera (up from 0.3 megapixels on the previous ones), Bluetooth and expandable memory using TransFlash/microSD cards.

Inside is the familiar 176x220 pixel display and fairly standard keypad layout you expect from an LG 3G phone. On the outside is a 96x96 pixel outer display and a fairly sizable antenna. The camera can point either in at the user for video calling, or point out for general picture taking.

LG have found plenty of ways of using the U8360's expandable memory in addition to the camera, as the hadnset will also play back MP3 and AAC audio clips and MPEG4 video (and there's a largish external speaker too). There's also a web browser and email client (although service limitation may apply for web access). There's just 22Mb of avaiable internal memory, but this can be expanded up to 256Mb.

It's a fairly heavy handset at 132 grams, which is a shame considering the Samsung broke the 100 gram barrier with the Z500. Physically the U8360 measures 92x49x24mm, with a little over 3 hours talktime and 9 days standby time.

Ultimately, the LG U8360 isn't a very exciting phone - but it does mean that LG are keeping pace with their competitors if nothing else. Initial pricing indications indicate that the LG U8360 will offer pretty good value on the 3 network too. The U8360 is available now or very soon in countries served by the Hutchison 3 network.
