It seems that just about every other
phone launched these days is a touchscreen device, and
the LG KP500 is no exception. LG in particular
are very keen on this type of phone, so what sets the
KP500 apart from other touchscreen phones in LG's range?
Simply put, the main proposition behind
the LG KP500 is price - it's a fair bit cheaper than
many other touchscreen phones. LG Germany say that the
recommended SIM-free price is €229 (around £180)
although realistically we would expect the street price
to be a lot cheaper, and it will most likely be free
with most contracts.
It has some impressive specifications
- a 3 inch 240 x 400 pixel display (like the LG
Renoir), a 3.2 megapixel camera, microSD expandable
memory, a multimedia player and an FM radio being
the main ones. However, to keep the price down the LG
KP500 lacks 3G, WiFi or GPS and the camera isn't as
good as the 5 megapixel and 8 megapixel units we have
been seeing recently.
At just 89 grams in weight and 107 x
55 x 12mm in size, the LG KP500 is pretty compact for
a touchscreen device. LG say that the KP500 should be
available at the end of October in Europe in black,
brown, silver and gold colour combinations.
Update: LG have announced that
the "pet name" for the KP500 will be the "LG
Cookie"
