The LG KP235 is a low cost clamshell
phone with Bluetooth and a very basic digital camera
which is available on a variety of networks, and the
LG KP230 is an almost identical handset that
is exclusive to Vodafone.
The specifications are pretty basic
- the main screen is a 1.7" 128 x 160 pixel TFT
panel, the camera is VGA resolution 0.3 megapixel unit,
the LG KP235 and KP230 both support Bluetooth, GPRS
and have a WAP browser.
At 79 grams, the KP230/KP235 is a very
lightweight phone, and although it isn't the most attractive
phone we have ever seen, it certainly looks quite smart.
Talktime is about 3.5 hours with up to 16 days standby
time.
Some
obvious things missing are an MP3 player, removable
memory, USB connectivity or any other high-tech gadgetry.
The KP230 and KP235 really can be considered as entry
level devices with the useful addition of Bluetooth.
LG's recommended retail price of these
phones is a staggering €99 (£80) when bought as
part of a prepay package. Considering that you can get
the excellent Nokia
6300 for around the same money, then it's clear
that LG is overpricing the phone. Shopping around, we
found that Orange have it in the UK for £40 (reduced
from £80), Vodafone Germany for €80 and T-Mobile
Germany for €70. These prices are a little more competitive
Both the LG KP230 and LG KP235 are available
now from a variety of networks across Europe.
