LG GS290 Cookie Fresh

Another addition to the growing LG Cookie range is the LG GS290 Cookie Fresh, a name that conjures up thoughts of home baking. The Cookie Fresh shares many features with the Cookie Plus, but in a simpler package that makes it compete against the popular Samsung Genio / Corby phone.

The LG GS290 Cookie Fresh has a 3" 240 x 400 pixel touchscreen display, a basic 2 megapixel camera, a multimedia player, FM radio and a 3.5mm audio socket.

This is a GSM-only device with no 3G or WiFi connectivity, and no fancy features like GPS either. However, the Cookie Fresh does come with support for social networking applications including Twitter and Facebook, supports downloadable "widgets" and has a fun cartoon-style user interface as well.

The Cookie Fresh has its work cut out when it comes to price, as the rival Samsung Corby (or Genio) costs about €100 SIM-free including taxes. Although the Cookie Fresh has a slightly bigger screen, it cannot afford to price itself out of this very competitive market segment.

LG say that the GS290 Cookie Fresh will be available in 16 different colours, although our guess is that most retailers will only have a couple of these available. At least the wide variety of colours stop if from looking too much like a black slabby handset.

We don't know exactly when the Cookie Fresh will be available to buy, but we suspect that you won't have to wait too long to see this particular phone in the shops.
