1st July 2012 As we head into the summer months, new handset releases tend to trail off a little. These are the major new announcements and handsets to market that we covered in June.
NokiaThree "Asha" branded value phones, the Nokia Asha 311 is an attractive looking touchscreen phone with a pretty decent specification for the money. The Nokia Asha 305 and 306 are dual-SIM and single-SIM versions of Nokia's new entry-level touchscreen offering.
SonyThe Sony Xperia tipo is a fairly low-end Android smartphone that still manages to look good. One step up from the tipo is the Sony Xperia miro with a bigger screen and some other improvements. LGTwo new LG products came to market this month, the LG Optimus L5 is a midrange device with a relatively large but low resolution display. A step up from the L5, the LG Optimus L7 poses a serious challenger to the top of the midrange market as well.
Other manufacturersTwo of the biggest rivals in the industry announced new products. The Google Nexus 7 is a fast but affordable 7" tablet running Android 4.1 "Jelly Bean". A completely different approach can be found in the Microsoft Surface line of products which blur the boundaries between tablets and notebooks.
