HTC P4350
Available
December 2006 22nd November 2006
HTC are on familiar territory with the
HTC P4350 (codenamed the HTC Herald), a familiar
looking Windows PDA-style phone with a spring-loaded
slide out QWERTY keyboard.
As the saying goes, the HTC P4350 isn't
a revolutionary device - it's an evolutionary
device. It's a quad-band GSM device with GPRS and EDGE
(so 2.5G rather than the HTC
TyTN which is 3.5G). There's a 2 megapixel camera,
WiFI, microSD memory card expansion and stereo Bluetooth.
The P4350 has the same landscape/portrait
mode for the 2.8" 240x320 pixel display, and as
you'd expect this a touch sensitive panel. The software
is Windows Mobile 5.0, so it means the usual suite of
Office compatibility, Outlook, Internet Explorer and
Windows Media Player.
It's
a pretty typical device when it comes to weight - the
HTC P4350 comes in at 168 grams. At 109x59x19mm the
P4350 is fairly typical compared to modern devices of
its type. Push email support is provided through Microsoft's
"Direct Push" technology, and there's also
IM support and a host of other goodies.
The HTC P4350 will cost around €570/£390/$730
before tax and subsidy. HTC say that it will be available
from December 2006 in some markets.
Vodafone have indicated that they will
pick up the HTC P4350, and other carriers will almost
definitely follow on. Admittedly, it might not be branded
at the HTC P4350 when you see it, but this capable smartphone
is likely to turn up in all sorts of places under different
names.
