HTC EVO 3D Europe

HTC EVO 3D Europe Available now
27th June 2011

We first saw a CDMA version of the HTC EVO 3D back in March, bound for the US Sprint network. HTC had obviously put a lot of work into their first 3D device, so it seemed to be quite likely that a European device would be available soon.. and indeed it is, the HTC EVO 3D will be available across much of Europe from July onwards.

The headline with the EVO 3D is, of course, the display which is a large 4.3" qHD panel with glasses-free 3D. Whether or not there is a market for this type of device is questionable, but HTC's commitment to 3D is admirable.

Running 3D on a big screen like this requires a lot of processing power, and the HTC EVO 3D does not disappoint with a dual-core 1.2GHz CPU coupled with a large 1GB of RAM. The EVO 3D runs the latest version of Android, version 2.3. There's 1GB of internal flash memory, expandable through the EVO 3D's microSD port.

On the back is a 3D camera that can take 2 megapixel 3D images and 5 megapixel 2D stills photos, along with 3D and 2D video capture in 720p HD. We think that the 3D video capture capabilities may be even more appealing to many customers than the HTC EVO 3D 3D screen, as the EVO 3D will be an relatively inexpensive way to make their own 3D content. On the front of the EVO 3D is a 1.3 megapixel camera for video calling.

This is a big device, weighing 170 grams and measuring 126 x 52 x 12mm. Inside is a very large 1730 mAh battery that gives over 7 hours talktime and 17 days standby time on 3G.

Unlike the original EVO 3D, this is a GSM / HSPA smartphone suitable for European networks. The HTC EVO 3D has quad-band GSM and supports UMTS 900 / 2100, plus 802.11 b, g and n WiFi. Bluetooth 3.0 and USB connectivity is supported, and the EVO 3D also comes with GPS and DLNA support.

The EVO 3D will easily be one of the most powerful Android handsets you can buy when it hits the market from next month. HTC didn't give any guidance on price, but we would expect the HTC EVO 3D to retail for somewhere in the region of €700 at launch.
