BenQ-Siemens
EF61 Special Edition
Discontinued 30th July 2006
The successor to the popular CL75
and CL75
Poppy Edition, the BenQ-Siemens
EF61 is a distinctly "girlie"
clamshell phone.
Although BenQ-Siemens
have called this version of the EF61
a "Special Edition", there is in fact no base
model of EF61.. in fact
the EF61 is a variation
of the BenQ-Siemens
CF61 which is a less "girlie" version
of this handset.
A quick tour around the EF61's
technical specifications show a mixed bag of features.
On the plus side, the EF61
has Bluetooth, expandable
memory, a 1.3 megapixel camera with a multishot function
and a capable looking MP3 player. On the minus side,
the screen is only 128x160 pixels which fairly basic
(although the display quality should be good as it's
a TFT display), the EF61
isn't particularly lightweight at a fairly average 99
grams, and the battery only offers a maximum of 3 hours
talktime.
There
are a few interesting features - the display doubles
as a mirror, the EF61
also has interactive gaming via Bluetooth, and you can
also add voice tags to photographs which seems to be
a useful idea.
Of course, the EF61
is really about looks and it does pretty well in this
department - the design has been softened compared to
the CF61 and the handset in the press photos has an
attractive floral design reminiscent of the Poppy
phone.
Ultimately, the BenQ-Siemens
EF61 Special Edition is
a fashion phone - but it's one that doesn't do too badly
when it comes to technical features. BenQ-Siemens
say the the EF61 should
be available sometime during Q3 2006.
